Moon Milk: Baked Apple Steamer

For our Scorpio Szn Moon Milk recipe, we're brewing up a very special potion. This delicious baked apple steamer moon milk recipe is straight out of the holiday playbook! With warming spices and baked apple fragrance in the air, this recipe is sure to get you into the holiday mood, whether you're celebrating Halloween, Dia De Los Muertos, or Samhain!

Baked Apple Steamer Moon Milk

This recipe really reminds me of being a kid playing in the Autumn leaves in the backyard after we spent all afternoon raking them into piles! Those carefree feelings of being a child, exploring, investigating the cycles of nature, and just being fully present really come through in this sort of home made elixir.

I love this recipe so much because, since we're in Autumn, most of us are wanting to be in the kitchen more often baking up yummy breads, fruit cobblers, pies, and all sorts of other deliciously roasted delectables. We will actually be doing a bit of baking with this recipe! If you're not really into baking, that's OK too! I have included easy substitutes for the baked items for you to try.

Steamers are basically steamed milk. You can add spices, fruit butters, syrups, herbs, and even a splash of white tea if you want a little hint of caffeine! In almost every Moon Milk recipe I share, I add a healthy does of ashwaganda, mushroom adaptogens, and CBD because I really want to incorporate as much nervous system soothing energy into this beverage as I possibly can. As someone who occasionally suffers from neuralgia pain, I take my plant medicine very seriously, and these herbs really do wonders!

For this recipe we will be making apple pie spice mix so that you can continue making this delicious steamer throughout spooky season and beyond! I'll also share options to give this Moon Milk a little extra kick too!

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups of almond or other unsweetened nut milk such as hemp or cashew

  • 1 cup organic unsweetened apple juice

  • 2-3 honey crisp apples peeled and sliced (OR alternatively 1/2 cup organic apple sauce)

  • 1/4 cup turbinado sugar, sugar in the raw, honey, or your choice of sweetener if desired

  • 1/4 tsp powdered ashwagandha

  • Your desired CBD infusion (I'm using Elan Naturals 1000 mg Full Spectrum CBD)

  • 1 tsp (or desired amount) Apple Pie spice mix

  • apple chips (for garnish)

  • whipped cream (for topping)

  • coconut oil (if baking apples)*

  • Caffine option - add 1 bag white tea

*Apple Pie Spice Mix:

  • 4 tablespoons ground cinnamon

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground nutmeg

  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice

  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cardamom

*To Prepare Apple Spice Mix:

Combine spices in a small bowl, mix well to combine. Store in an air-tight jar to enjoy as desired!

*To Prepare Baked apples:

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Toss peeled apple slices with a drizzle of honey (or your desired sweetener), melted coconut oil, 1/2 Tbsp apple pie spice mix, and pinch of sea salt until well coated. Spread in a thin layer on a baking sheet lined with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. Place in the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Take out, stir, spread evenly, and return to the oven Bake for another 7 minutes, and stir again. Return to the oven for another 7-9 minutes, until apples are tender and the sauce is thick and caramelized. Let cool slightly and set aside. They will keep well in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. You can save the baked apple slices to top over ice cream or into pancakes or muffins later.

To prepare Baked Apple Steamer:

In a small pot, heat milk to steaming but not simmering. While the milk is heating up, mash 1/2 cup of baked apples in a small bowl then add to milk (or alternatively 1/2 c. organic apple sauce) along with 2 tsp apple pie mix, apple juice, and sweetener. Allow this mixture to integrate for 2 minutes stirring occasionally so that it doesn't scald (Add white tea bag if desired here to steep & remove before blending).

Transfer to Magic Bullet blender, add CBD infusion and ashwagandha, then blend for about 5 seconds. *(See Note*) This will create a beautiful velvety rich texture to the milk and completely emulsify the CBD with the steaming hot milk.

*Note: When opening the Magic Bullet blade from the cup, there will be a very slight suction and then steam coming out. Use caution!

Pour this infusion into two large mugs, top with whipped cream, a sprinkle of apple pie mix and garnish with apple chips (if desired).

This yummy elixir has such a warm, comforting, and nourishing presence. The spices, herbs & CBD all integrate together with the baked apples and nut milk so beautifully. And when you blend this infusion together, you create a smooth velvety finish to this beverage that will keep you coming back for more! If you have tiny humans, this can also be a yummy "grown up" healing elixir they can enjoy with you too! (White tea & CBD Optional!)

This recipe is such a delicious elixir and absolutely perfect for your New Moon & Full Moon Ceremonies during Scorpio Szn! If you're curious about setting up your own Magical Moon Ceremony, check out The Magic of Moon Ceremonies musing HERE!
