Creamy Vanilla Chai Moon Milk
When we polled our followers about what they would enjoy for a delicious Moon Milk recipe this month for Libra Season, Vanilla Chai won the most votes! Baked Apple Steamer and Spiced Pear Tea Latte were a very close second, so they will be our November & December Moon Milk recipes - yum! I wanted to put a delicious ayurvedic twist to this recipe so that it's not only a warm and soothing concoction, but it's also an incredible medicinal elixir curated to help reduce stress and boost your immune system. Ginger has potent antibacterial properties that can help to ward off dangerous pathogens and keep you safe and healthy. Ginger can also help to keep your immune system in tip-top shape thanks to its anti-inflammatory effects. Black teas like chai tea also contain catechins that can help to reduce the risk of viral infection. With the added benefit of CBD and Ashwagandha powder, this tea will help reduce and ease stress, calm the nervous system, and help boost immunity! This is absolutely perfect if you ask me, especially as the seasons turn colder.
Chai tea is black tea steeped in milk, flavored with spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, and star anise, and sweetened with sugar or honey. Chai can be made with any number of spices. The usual staple ingredients are green cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, black peppercorn, and fresh ginger. You can add star anise, fennel seeds, allspice, white peppercorn, dried ginger, and/or nutmeg. Feel free to experiment with combinations until you land on one that you love.
For this recipe, I am using Vanilla Spiced Masala Chai Teabags from VAHDAM. I also tried Organic Chai Black Tea from Good & Gather™ & The Original Chai Tea Latte from Oregon Chai. All options are great when prepared with love. This recipe yields 2 large warm mugs of Creamy Vanilla Chai.
Ingredients:
4 cups of water
3 bags Vanilla Spiced Masala Chai Teabags from VAHDAM or alternatively you can grind your own spices to make a chai spice mixture (see alternate recipe below)
2 cups of almond or other unsweetened nut milk such as hemp or cashew
¼ cup brown sugar, packed (use 2 tablespoons if you like a spicer chai, and go up to a ⅓ of a cup if you like a sweeter chai)
1/4 tsp powdered ashwagandha
your choice CBD infusion
To Prepare:
Bring out one medium pot, one small saucepan, and your Magic Bullet (or favorite blender/immersion blender) In a medium pot bring water to a boil, add tea bags, remove from heat & steep for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, heat milk and brown sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Scald but do not boil. Pour into Magic Bullet, add powdered ashwagandha and CBD infusion, then blend until nice and frothy. Let cool for 1 minute. Remove bags and pour spiced tea into mugs and add infused frothy milk.
*Note: When opening the Magic Bullet blade from the cup, there will be a very slight suction and then steam coming out. Use caution!
To Prepare Chai Tea Spice Mix:
(Makes enough for 2 mugs of chai tea)
8 cardamom pods
4 whole cloves
1 teaspoon black peppercorns
4 whole star anise pods
½ teaspoon ground ginger
3 cinnamon sticks
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
4 Darjeeling black tea bags
Grind spices in your Magic Bullet with the milling blade. Store in an air-tight jar to enjoy as desired! Triple this recipe for a chai tea party!
