I stumbled upon this idea for a new Moon Milk recipe while looking for inspiration for different infused iced tea lattes and I was amazed I hadn't thought of it before!
Infused Blackberry Velvet Moon Milk
This one is perfect for this Full Moon in Pisces on September 20, 2021. For a lot of us, we are still experiencing the last few warm sunny days before Autumn initiates the first cold snap and chill in the air. Harvesting the remaining blackberries from the vine during late summer with my family on our farm when we were little, are some of the fondest memories I have of my childhood. Mom would bake cobblers and make ice cream and then freeze the rest for pies over the winter holidays. When you add the soothing and calming effects of CBD it allows you to truly unwind from your day and connect to the present moment. The blackberries bring in the essence of the last rays of the sun as we drift ever closer to the bitterness of winter. This recipe will make 2 large mugs of Moon Milk.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup organic blackberries
1/4 cup turbinado sugar, sugar in the raw, honey, or your choice of sweetener if desired
4 bags of early grey tea
1/3 cup of almond or other unsweetened nut milk such as hemp or cashew
about 5 cups of water
1/4 tsp powdered ashwagandha
your choice CBD infusion
To Prepare:
Bring 5 cups of water to a low boil. While the water is heating up, place blackberries in a large bowl with sugar. Using a fork or potato masher muddle the mixture into a thick jammy consistency. Add the tea bags to the side of the bowl and then pour the hot water over the fruit and tea bags and steep for about 5 minutes. In a separate pot heat up nut milk stirring occasionally until it starts steaming, but not simmering. Transfer to Magic Bullet blender, add CBD infusion, and ashwagandha, then blend for about 5 seconds. *(See Note*) This will create a beautiful velvety rich texture to the milk and completely emulsify the CBD with the steaming hot milk.
*Note: When opening the Magic Bullet blade from the cup, there will be a very slight suction and then steam coming out. Use caution!
When tea and blackberries are finished steeping pour through a strainer into two large mugs, and top with creamy milk infusion blend, saving the cream to dollop on top. You can save the blackberries to top over ice cream or into pancakes or muffins later.
Iced version: After tea and fruit have fully steeped together, pour into a medium-sized pitcher about half full of ice. This will melt the ice, but cool down the tea. Add more ice to the pitcher if desired or store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Blend nut milk, CBD infusion, and ashwagandha in Magic Bullet blender (or alternative) for 3-4 seconds. This will create a delicious cold creamy milk froth. Pour fruit and tea into two chilled glasses half full of ice about 3/4 full. Then top each glass with creamy whipped nut milk infusion.
This infused blackberry velvet tea is perfect when it's steamy and hot for those cool evenings spent stargazing or doing your evening moon rituals. It's also amazing chilled for those warm late summer days (or early spring if you're in the southern hemisphere!)
